DUBLIN city burlesque performer Vixyn Von Trix has entered this year’s Miss Burlesque Ireland competition which will be held at the Button Factory in Temple Bar on July 18.

“As soon as I watched the competition last year I knew I had to enter,

? says Vixyn, who hails from the Docklands.

“Not only were all the contestants glamourous, elegant and extremely talented, they all looked like they were having the time of their lives.

“I’ve entered Miss Burlesque to challenge myself, and to push myself to the limit.

“I want to explore every aspect of the art of burlesque and better myself as a performer.

Vixyn, who will be appearing in this competition for the second time, says the Irish burlesque community is incredibly close.

“People support each other and drive each other to grow,

? she says.

“It’s a wonderful family to be a part of, and this is just an incredible chance to experience something new.

Vixyn says she has been dancing for as long as she can remember.

“I think I have tried every aspect of dance at least once – from Irish dance to hip-hop, from contemporary to cabaret, and everything in between,

? she says.

“I was a proper stage school kid and attended for 10 years. I think every child should go to a stage school, I have the greatest memories.

In 2010, Vixyn auditioned for

‘The Sedettes’, an alternative performance dance troupe run by Sedition Industries. Through this she performed many times, both in a group and as a solo act.

“Sedition Industries allowed me to experiment with different performances, different atmospheres, different aesthetics, all of which gave me an ample taste into the world of burlesque,

? she says.

“I have never looked back.

In relation to the competition performance content, style and costumes are all key factors and are heavily marked.

But most importantly the judges want to see how much fun you are having during your routines.

“You need to translate to your audience, and nothing translates better than the audience seeing your love, passion and enjoyment in each performance,

? she says.

Eleven burlesque performers from all over Ireland will be battling it out to win the coveted crown. There are strict marking criteria and judges will be looking for different aspects in different categories.

The top five performers on the night will go on to perform a routine in the Unique category, an act where anything and everything goes.

So what are Vixyn’s ambitions for the future in burlesque?

“To get into the top five at Miss Burlesque Ireland would be such an honour, and if I place for a crown that would be the icing on the cake for sure,

? she replies.

“I hope to continue to be part of the ever-growing Irish burlesque scene and to constantly learn and grow as a performer.

Vixyn adds:

“There are so many amazing burlesque festivals here in Ireland and abroad, and I would love nothing more than to keep performing and challenging myself.
