LOCALS in Skerries are preparing for a big party this weekend to mark the final stage of the country’s most prestigious cycle race.

The 2015 An Post Rás will finish in the scenic north county Dublin town for the 10th time, on Sunday, May 24. The organisers are hoping that the sun will shine for the town’s massive street party and that thousands will turn out to line the streets to welcome the riders on the tough last stage from Drogheda to Skerries.

The 63rd An Post Rás, which got underway last Sunday (May 17) in Dunboyne, passes through a total of 14 counties and more than 1,180 kilometres over the eight days.

The race attracts the top international teams from around the world and on Sunday May 24, the professional cyclists will cycle 132k on the final stage from Drogheda which includes three full laps of the gruelling 13.2km circuit up into the Blackhills and through Skerries, before they cross the finish line for a fourth and final time. The street party begins at 1pm, and at 2pm the riders will arrive in Skerries. Traffic restrictions will be in place.

Organisers are urging as many people as possible to give the riders a massive welcome when they arrive in the seaside town.
