Foster homes needed for rescued puppies

A NORTHSIDE based animal welfare charity is desperately seeking homes for a litter of pups rescued from the recent raid on a puppy farm in Co Carlow.

Dogs Trust in Finglas took in many of the rescued dogs, including a litter of nine orphan pups suffering from a canine disease called adenovirus, which is a similar to hepatitis.

Dogs Trust say the disease is 100 per cent manageable and non transferable to humans and the charity is desperate to find temporary homes for them.

“We’ve been appealing for foster homes for them, to make sure they get plenty of TLC and so that they also don’t infect any of our non vaccinated residents,

? said Ciara McGowan, Communications and Campaigns Administrator at Dogs Trust.

Fosterers will need to commit to at least three months taking care of the pups, live close to a veterinary practice and also be at home for a large portion of the day.

“We know it’s a lot to ask, but these puppies really need your help,

? McGowan added.

Dogs Trust will supply bedding, food and will cover any veterinary treatment the puppies need. Any dogs in the home already need to have been fully vaccinated.

Dogs Trust assisted the ISPCA with the removal and care of many of the most vulnerable dogs and pups from the Carlow puppy farm.

All the rescued dogs were given emergency veterinary treatment and kept safely in the Dogs Trust

‘Mutternity Ward’ where they got lots of TLC from canine carers, soft blankets, food and water.

The carers even had Lyric FM playing softly in the background – a stark contrast from the concrete walls and horrendous conditions of the puppy farm they came from.
