A LARGE sum of accidentally dumped money has been found at a Finglas recycling centre – just six months after

?¬2,775 was discovered in amongst the rubbish at the same site.

Last week Romanian national Costica Nedelcu, working at Panda Waste Management Centre in Cappagh, came across

?¬1,500 hidden in an old shoe.

Honest Costica reported the find to his boss and the company managed to track down the rightful owner and return the cash.

The money belonged to a women with Alzheimer’s who had hidden the money around her home for safekeeping. However, when her daughter arranged for a Panda skip to clean out the home she unwittingly threw out an old pair of shoes that her mother was using as a hiding place for her stash.

The woman’s daughter, who asked not to be named, had no idea that the money had been thrown out until she got a call from Panda.

“It’s a big relief and a pleasant surprise to get my mother’s money back,

? she said.

“I’m very appreciative of Panda’s honesty and professionalism in returning the cash.

It’s not the first time the company has returned cash accidently dumped to its owner. Last September

?¬2,775 was found by staff in another skip brought to the recycling plant.

That money belonged to a local woman who was clearing out her late father’s house and didn’t spot the cash hidden amongst the rubbish.

Experts say it’s not unusual for sufferers of Alzheimer’s to hide cash around the home and then forget about it.

“When discarding of possessions on behalf of older people, we advise carers to be aware that valuables can be hidden in unexpected places, so furniture or other unwanted items should be double checked before being placed into skips,

? said Eamon Timmins of Age Action Ireland.

Brian McCabe, CEO of Panda, said the company had noticed a trend with senior citizens accidentally dumping cash into skips but said the company was happy to be able to return any lost money to customers.

“We will continue to be vigilant and will make every effort to ensure that cash accidently thrown into skips or bins is returned to its rightful owner,

? he said.
