A NORTH Dublin community centre recently played host to a celebration of diversity.

The event at Flemington Community Centre, Balbriggan, was held as part of

‘Polska Eire’, a week-long series of events across Ireland.

It was initiated through the office of Minster of State for New Communities, Culture and Equality Aodhán Ríordáin.

The event was a family day for the people of Balbriggan with a special emphasis on the Polish community.

It was organised by the Fingal Irish Polish Intercultural Organisation (FIPICA) in conjunction with the Community Development Office of Fingal County Council.

A major volleyball tournament took place in the community centre along with talks on Polish culture, martial arts displays, music therapy, bouncy castles, face painting and more.

Olaf Berthold and Jacob Zajac, from FIPICA, were delighted with the turnout on the day.

“The event was special for all those Poles who chose Balbriggan as a place to make their home,

? they said.

Chief executive of Fingal County Council Paul Reid said:

“There are over 900 people of Polish descent in the town (Balbriggan) and they have made a very positive contribution locally.

Balbriggan has a number of Polish businesses from hairdressing to graphic design and photography.

Strong support for the event was given through local businesses and the Balbriggan community.
