YOUNG Northside artists Peter Casey (5) from Glasnevin Educate Together and Katie O’Brien (9) from Holy Family Senior National School, Swords have received prizes in the Sightsavers Junior Painter of the Year Awards. Overall winner Katie’s painting was

‘I Want You to See Books Fly’ while Peter also impressed the judges with his work,

‘I Want You To See Space’.

The winners were unveiled in the inspiring surroundings of The Science Gallery, Dublin, where they were joined by TV3 presenter and TV personality, Sheana Keane, who was lending her support to the initiative.

Speaking at the ceremony Sheana said:

“Today was about our wonderfully creative children from all over Ireland showing us adults how to see the world through their eyes.

“They remind us to stop constantly doing and planning and worrying and to take a moment to really see the world.

“It was a joy to support their important work today towards creating a world where people are not needlessly blind.

Over 5,000 budding young artists from over 200 primary schools around the country entered the annual art competition, devised by Sightsavers to inspire Irish children to express their artistic talent through painting whilst developing an appreciation of the importance and value of their sight. The paintings will be exhibited in the Powerscourt Centre until Sunday, April 19.
