Anger over footpath damage
Dublin People 14 Mar 2015
IRISH Water is to carry out repair work after a footpath in Clontarf was inadvertently damaged during meter installation work.

Dublin City Council installed a section of paving on Brian Boru Street last November. However, it was damaged on February 27 while installation work was taking place (see photo).
Deirdre Heney, a Fianna Fáil councillor for the Clontarf Local Electoral Area (LEA), said:
“The lovely surface in front of the houses where disabled people live has been completely wrecked.
“Both I and the residents are very upset about the way in which the new surface has been ruined.
“Irish Water needs to reinstate this surface immediately and no cost should fall on Dublin City Council.
?
Cllr Heney lobbied the council for over 18 months on behalf of local residents to have a replacement surface installed in front of their houses in place of what was an unsightly, unclean and unattractive area of shrubbery.
“The residents of Brian Boru Street were very pleased with the new neat surface that was beautifully installed by Dublin City Council last year as part of an effort to do something on time for the millennial anniversary of the death of Brian Boru,
? she added.
In a statement, Irish Water said repairs works were sheduled to take place last Thursday (March 12).
“We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused during the meter installation works,
? a spokeswoman said.
“Irish Water has a strict auditing programme of all works carried out as part of the programme,
“In order to review the quality of works that the contractor has undertaken, a team of field inspectors carry out frequent audits of the contractors’ works.
“If audits show that the works are not up to this standard then the contractor must repair at his own cost.
?
The spokeswoman added:
“Members of the public can also report any issues during the works directly to Irish Water by contacting 1890 278 278.

A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said it did not wish to comment on the incident.
