Hurling star launches trip of a lifetime

ONE of Ireland’s most famous sports stars has thrown his support behind a charity founded by an Irishman that provides education opportunities for disadvantaged, homeless and street children in Nepal.

Former hurler Seán �g � hAilpín who launched the

‘just-one’ Trek to Nepal, praised the work of the organisation, and encouraged people to support the trip which takes place next November.

The just-one charity, founded by Declan Murphy 10 years ago, is inviting hill-walkers and trekkers to take up the opportunity to participate in a

“trip of a lifetime

? to Nepal from November 5 – 18.

A group of up to 18 Irish people will be offered the opportunity to travel to the Nepalese capital Kathmandu, where they will witness just-one’s work while experiencing the incredibly beautiful country around it for two weeks.

For over a decade, just-one has been helping and encouraging some of the poorest children in Kathmandu to access educational opportunities they would otherwise never have a chance to avail of. The life-changing decision for these young children has seen them moving off the streets where some had scavenged for years through rubbish or worked from the age of six as servants for the better-off.

Now just-one has secured the entire trip at a cost of just over

?¬1,100 (including return flights, accommodation and trek) for the 14-day adventure that will take in a trek through the nearby Himalayas. To avail of this trip of a lifetime, each confirmed participant is being asked to raise a minimum of

?¬1,500 for just-one in aid of the organisation’s work on the ground in Kathmandu.

Declan Murphy, a qualified teacher and the founder of just-one, thanked Seán �g for launching the trip.

“I look forward to greeting a bunch of Irish people at our headquarters in Kathmandu,

“And I thank everyone in advance for their support for just-one’s work, which really makes a positive difference to some of the most impoverished and disadvantaged children in the world.

Places are limited to the first 18 people signed-up. Four places are already gone and the remainder are expected to be snapped up within the next month to six weeks.
