IRELAND was well represented on the red carpet on Leicester Square, London, recently as two of the winners from Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture’s recycled fashion competition 2014 strutted their stuff.

Emma Rose Callaghan and Femi Akinrinde donned their kouture designs

‘Locked in Time’ and

‘Lost in Translation’ respectively on the catwalk before enjoying an overnight stay in the Ritz Hotel.

‘Lost in Translation’, a remarkable design from Malahide Community School, was showcased by Femi who designed the dress along with Tara Collins and their teacher, Johanna Smyth.

This design won the Bank of Ireland Glamour Prize at the Junk Kouture 2014 final in May and the dress was created using worn out dictionaries and novels that were salvaged from the local library and school.

‘Locked in Time’ is a striking design from Scoil Mhuire, Buncrana, County Donegal, modelled by Emma Rose Callaghan who designed the dress along with Sarah O’Dwyer and their teacher Veronica Buchanan.

‘Locked in Time’ derives inspiration from the novel

‘Great Expectations’.

This design also won a Glamour Prize at the Junk Kouture 2014 final.

The Irish ladies showed off their stylish junk on the catwalk alongside Prince Charles and other members of the royal family.

Maggie Smith, Dame Judi Dench, Richard Gear, Bill Nighy and Dev Patel, all part of the star studded cast of

‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel’, also walked alongside the Irish students on the red carpet.

Elizabeth Curran, co-founder of Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture, was also at the premiere,

“It was very exciting for Junk Kouture to be invited to the Royal Film Premiere in London again this year,

? she said.

“The two prize winning students oozed red carpet glamour and their junk creations really stole the show. They had the photographers of the world’s media in a frenzy as they stepped onto the famous Leicester Square carpet.

“It’s such a shame we can only bring two students to the premiere as the talent and creativity in a lot of the Junk Kouture designs could, no doubt, compete with international designers for that special red carpet wow factor – minus the price tag!
