Illegal dumping and graffiti drags down neighbourhoods

ONGOING illegal dumping and graffiti is continuing to blight two Southside suburbs.

In Inchicore Cllr Greg Kelly (SF) has highlighted a large amount of dumping happening on a regular basis around the Jamestown Road area.
Cllr Kelly said:
“The illegal dumping of waste, whether household or industrial, is unacceptable in the area. This is becoming a big issue in Dublin and we have seen a large increase in Inchicore.
“In recent times we have witnessed the dumping of household waste on Tyrconnell Road and at the weekend I was made aware of large dumping of industrial waste just off Jamestown Road.
“I have reported this to Dublin City Council and I am hopeful that it will clean up the waste very quickly. I will be keeping a close eye on this and will continue to keep the council informed of any issues.

Meanwhile, in Tallaght, the local Fianna Fail councillor Charlie O’Connor slammed the graffiti vandals that he said were now upsetting local communities throughout the area.
According to Cllr O’Connor, there is particular upset over the graffiti that has appeared on the Priory wall in Tallaght Village close to The Dragon Inn, which has been subject to a number of attacks recently.
He added that graffiti has also appeared on the Totem Pole and wall at the Tallaght Village Plaza.
“These graffiti attacks are a crime on the community,
? he said.
“I would appeal to anybody who sees people vandalising property in this regard to contact the gardai.

Cllr O’Connor said that he has again appealed to the Environmental Department of South Dublin County Council to remove the graffiti as it creates a very negative image of Tallaght Village and was upsetting for locals and for those visiting the village.
The matter was subsequently raised by Cllr O’Connor at a meeting of the Tallaght Area Committee in the council chambers where he called for strong action on the issue.
