FINGLAS funnyman Brendan O’Carroll already leads the way when it comes to comedy and he’ll be doing it again at this year’s St Patrick’s Day parade.

The writer and star of Mrs Brown’s Boys has been announced as 2015 Grand Marshal so he’ll be marching at the head of the parade on March 17 next.

And Brendan is really delighted to be appointed top man for the national holiday.

“In asking me to be Grand Marshal of the Dublin Parade, St Patrick’s Festival have honoured my family and honoured all of us working in Mrs Brown’s Boys who try to bring a little piece of Dublin humour around the world,

? he said.

“I attended the Dublin Parade in all weathers for over 50 years and went from sitting on my sisters’ shoulders to having my own children sitting on mine.

“I cannot now believe that I am going to get a moment to lead this wonderful gathering of floats, bands and organisations and shout

‘follow me I know a shortcut up Moore Street’!

The Northside-born star writes and stars in Mrs Brown’s Boys, which has won numerous awards and accolades including three National Television Awards, TV Choice Awards, a Scottish BAFTA, an IFTA award, a TV Times Award and a TV BAFTA for Best Situation Comedy.

CEO of St Patrick’s Festival, Susan Kirby, said organisers were delighted with Brendan’s appointment.

“Brendan has shown his great personality and exceptional talent throughout his whole career but it is safe to say his work in the past few years has been phenomenal,

? she said.

“He is a great ambassador for Ireland on a global level through his charm and Dublin wit, we know this means a lot to him and we wish him all the best in his role and hope he enjoys the special experience.

Off-camera and stage, Brendan has been committed to helping those less fortunate than himself and was recipient of the philanthropist of the year award recently for his work with St Vincent de Paul. This year’s St Patrick’s festival kicks off Saturday, March 14 and there’ll be a packed programme of events running right through until the big day on Tuesday, March 17.

Events already confirmed include a festival treasure hunt, an Irish Beer and Whiskey Festival and an

‘In the Footsteps of St Patrick’ Walking Tour. There’ll also be lots of music and comedy performances and the now annual St Patrick’s Festival 5k Road Race takes place on Sunday, March 15.
