Council’s letter is really for the birds

DUBLIN city Council has warned residents at a senior citizens’ complex in Finglas that they face fines if they continue to feed the birds.

An official letter sent to the residents at Mellowes Court says the council is aware that birds are being fed in the complex.

And despite the cold weather making it difficult for birds to feed at this time of year the council believes it’s a serious nuisance.

“The feeding of birds in any area of the complex is unsightly, unhygienic and a cause of serious nuisance and annoyance to other residents and visitors,

? the warning letter reads.

“Dublin City Council would urge anybody involved in this practice to cease immediately or they may find themselves in breach of the Litter and Pollution Act and could be fined.

However, some residents are baffled by the letter and are wondering if other favourite senior citizens activities could also be banned.

“We are old age pensioners living alone,

? one said.

“Dublin City Council may wish to twin with Tehran. A new law there forbids the petting or walking of dogs in public on pain of 74 lashes.
