Support for retention of Poolbeg chimneys stacks up on Northside
Dublin People 30 Jan 2015
MINISTER of State for New Communities, Culture & Equality, Aodhán Ã? RÃordáin, has called on the ESB to retain the Poolbeg chimneys.

Last month the Dublin Bay North TD conducted an online poll of residents in the Clontarf and Raheny areas.
Speaking following the poll result, Minister Ã? RÃordáin, said many people in Dublin have a special connection to the chimneys.
“This is evident from the result of my online poll with 88 per cent of respondents calling for their retention,
? he told Northside People.
“They are part of Dublin’s visual culture as well as a symbol of the city, often being the first thing seen by returning ex-pats on their flights home.
“I am calling on the ESB to ensure that they are preserved.
?
Minister Ã? RÃordáin conceded that the chimneys may not be things of intrinsic beauty but argued that they form a special part of Dublin’s skyline.
“I think it would be an aesthetic loss to the city if they were to be removed or allowed to go into disrepair,
? he added.
