Southside students launch new phone charging service
Dublin People 30 Jan 2015
TWO Southside students have embarked on a clever project that will soon make a low phone battery a thing of the past.

The innovative new phone charging service, WattSpot, launched its website in the Media Cube at the Institute of Art, Design and Technology (IADT) Dun Laoghaire.
Applied Psychology student Conor Nolan and Entrepreneurship student Conor McGowan (21) are the founders of WattSpot, a firm supplying an innovative service to the hospitality industry.
The business aims to tackle battery consumption issues for consumers on the go, through the provision of free phone charging facilities across the country.
Speaking about the launch of the new website the two founders, who study at the IADT, said they knew how inconvenient it could be to have nowhere to charge your phone.
“So we decided to do something about it,
? they stated.
“The product is suitable for a whole host of businesses from coffee shops to hotels, golf clubs to restaurants and many more.
?
WattSpot started up a few months ago, when the founders began cold calling businesses with their idea for the service. Since then it has grown rapidly and is now available in establishments such as Insomnia Coffee Company, Topaz and independent businesses across Ireland. With exposure at events such as the Web Summit, WattSpot is set to expand to the UK within the next few months.
“Businesses benefit from the incentive for customers to enter their establishment to charge their phones for free. Sales increase and the overall customer experience is elevated. Everyone’s a winner. It’s simple really,
? said Nolan, who came up with the concept.
“I asked Conor what he thought of the idea about a year ago now, and we’ve really come a long way since then. The response to WattSpot has been incredible and the support has been unbelievable.

The new WattSpot site was launched at IADT. The site was created by digital marketing agency Castle33, founded by IADT graduate Eoin Dixon Murphy, who is now Creative Director at the agency.
The new website WattSpot.ie is tailored to both provide information to prospective clients and, most notably, features a map with WattSpot locations so customers can track down the nearest charging point.
The new site is available at www.WattSpot.ie.
