Refurbishment project imminent
Dublin People 23 Jan 2015
THE commencement of a refurbishment project for a Northside housing estate is imminent.
It was announced last year that a total of
?¬7.9 million in funding is to be provided for 35 new houses to be built at Lower Buttercup Estate.
A spokesman for Dublin City Council said the tender process for the construction of the houses is complete and the approval of the Department of the Environment, Community & Local Government to the engagement of the successful contractor has been received.
“The successful contractor is now in the process of submitting all required documentation including insurances, performance bond, tax clearance, evidence of participation in recognised pension and sick pay schemes, health and safety statement and work programme,
? he told Northside People.
“On receipt of all satisfactory documentation the contractor will be formally engaged.
“It is anticipated that the contractor will commence work on site in early February 2015.
“The works involve the demolition of six houses (22 houses demolished in a separate contract following serious anti-social activity including arson attacks) and the construction of 35 homes along with the development of new access roads and boundary treatment works.
?
Local councillor Larry O’Toole (SF) said he welcomed the city council’s commitment to the project.
“I have campaigned for years with local residents to have this work carried out,
? he stated.
“As well as the area being enhanced by the refurbishment, it will provide much needed
homes for families on the housing list.
?
Cllr O’Toole added:
“I have also requested that where possible, local employment will be used during the development.
