Local unemployment figures continue to fall

NEW figures published by the Central Statistics Office last week have confirmed a continuing drop in local unemployment figures.

The latest statistics show decreases of close to 10 per cent in Ballymun and over six per cent in the Finglas area.

Local TD, John Lyons (Lab), has welcomed the figures.

“In the case of Ballymun, the Youth Guarantee has been in operation for a year and has guaranteed young people in the local area the opportunity of a career path,

? he said.

By completion of the pilot phase, it is expected that approximately 1,000 young people will have engaged with the Youth Guarantee scheme in Ballymun.

“Many of the lessons learned during the pilot scheme are expected to be passed onto other localities so that young people out of work will be in a better equipped position to find work,

? Deputy Lyons continued.

Overall in Dublin, there were about 94,000 people on the Live Register at the end of 2013 compared to just over 84,000 in December 2014.

“These are encouraging figures, and show the progress we are making in reducing the numbers of unemployed people in Dublin North West as a whole,

? the Labour TD added.

“A key aim for the Labour Party in Government is to ensure the benefits of the economic recovery are felt in every community across the country.
