Publicans urged to be aware of drinking bye-laws
Dublin People 18 Dec 2014
A SOUTHSIDE councillor has called on the owners and managers of pubs and bars to ensure that they are fully compliant with bye-laws regulating the consumption of intoxicating liquor.

Cllr Victor Boyhan (Ind) said in a statement that every year his office receives calls about drunk and disorderly behaviour outside public houses on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.
“In many cases, following investigation, it was clear that due to large volumes of people attending certain pubs crowds moved out onto the public pathways to celebrate and consume alcohol, which in many cases is in breach of the bye-laws,
? Cllr Boyhan said.
“Many parish churches in recent years have been forced to reschedule midnight services to avoid drunks congregating outside and causing disturbance and offence to others.
“In recent years I have received complaints from residents of Blackrock, Monkstown, Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey about broken bottles, glass and vomit from the excess of alcohol consumed on public streets.
?
Cllr Boyhan has called on publicans to fully abide by the bye-laws governing the consumption of alcohol in public places within the administrative County of Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council.
“I am also calling on the gardaà to be vigilant and to pursue the law for any breaches of the bye-laws,
? he added.
“If members of the public experience any breaches of the bye-laws I would urge them to make contact with their local gardaà and file a complaint.
