Evie’s appeal reaches target
Dublin People 05 Dec 2014
A HUGE fundraising drive that got underway to purchase a wheelchair accessible car for a brave Northside girl has reached its target.

Last month, Northside People highlighted the story of Evie Lawlor (5), from Donnycarney, who was diagnosed with a devastating neurodegenerative disorder in January. Shortly after the diagnosis, the local community rallied around to help Evie’s parents Pascal and Lisa.
The Friends of Evie group was born and a 10-strong committee immediately kickstarted a campaign to raise
?¬29,000 for a specially adapted car to suit Evie’s needs. Brian Furlong, a spokesperson for Friends of Evie, told Northside People that
?¬35,000 has been raised so far, with more money still to come in.
“The Friends of Evie group and Evie’s parents are absolutely thrilled with the response to the appeal,
? said Mr Furlong.
“People from all areas made donations when they heard about Evie. We are delighted to have achieved our target. It’s a fantastic sum of money.
“The new car is being ordered this month and will be delivered in January. It will make such a difference to Evie.
?
According to Mr Furlong, Evie’s parents are
“absolutely stunned
? by the generosity of everyone and would like to thank them all for their kindness.
Following the purchase of the car, any money over will go towards Evie’s ongoing care.
Meanwhile, a number of Christmas charity events will take place at the West Wood Club in Clontarf from Monday to Wednesday, December 15-17. All monies raised will be split evenly between Evie’s fund and St Vincent de Paul.
The events will include a morning bake sale, evening Christmas aquafit class, charity spin, kids’ Christmas party, adult tennis mash-up, climbing wall fun and games and a members’ Christmas brunch. On Tuesday, December 16, Evie will attend a Fitzone
‘Frozen’ Extravaganza at the club.
Members of the public are invited to attend these events. Visit Evie’s Facebook page: Friends of Evie Lawlor, for a full list of the programme. The Evie Lawlor Fund has been set up at the AIB Branch, Howth Road, Raheny. The Sort Code is 932345 and the Account number is 31212044.
