Jamie’s star continues to shine brightly
Dublin People 14 Nov 2014A NORTHSIDE teen is continuing to make waves with the Irish women’s team after producing some very good performances in the international arena.
Jamie Finn (16), from Swords, was named captain of the Ireland Under 17s that travelled to Serbia last month for the UEFA WU17 Championships Qualifying Round Group 4.
In their three games, Ireland defeated Lithuania and Romania (both 2-0) and drew 1-1 with the hosts.
Jamie, a defender who plays her club football with Shelbourne’s Ladies’ team, scored the second goal in the win over Lithuania,
Ireland topped the group and the draw for the Elite Round of the competition will take place this week.
Jamie’s success should come as no surprise given that she started playing football at the age of five with her local team, Swords Manor Boys.
At the age of 13, she could no longer play for the boys’ team and joined Shels.
Jamie captained the Ireland Schools’ team at the age of 14, which came second in an interprovincial tournament involving Scotland, England and Wales.
Earlier this year she was picked for the Ireland Under 19 squad that got to the semi-finals of the Europeans. Unfortunately she got injured in camp a week before she was due to fly out with the team.
Understandably, the St Finian’s Community College student was devastated but stuck to her rehabilitation programme and came back stronger.
