Mayor wants public to ask him ‘stuff’

THE Sinn Fein mayor of South Dublin County, Fintan Warfield, has launched a new blog and he wants locals to ask him

‘stuff’ about politics, local government or anything else they want to know about his role.

Mayor Warfield says he wants to make his office more accessible and to give young people an opportunity to engage with the political process through the option of anonymous questions.

“I regularly ask myself whether the political system is truly representative of the community it serves,

? he said.

“People my own age often see no point in engaging with the democratic process at all and only 34 per cent of those registered to vote exercised that right in the Dublin South West by-election.

“Anonymity has a really bad name online but I think that can be turned on its head and used in a really positive way.

“Already there are individuals asking questions about coming out as openly gay, questions about local government and so on.

“It is my hope that this blog will make the mayor’s office more accessible and afford young people an opportunity to ask questions anonymously about an issue close to their heart.

So far the mayor has been asked for his thoughts on gender quotas, public transport price hikes and whether he prefers wearing boxers or briefs.
