A SUPPORT group for young people, who have or have had cancer, has launched a new DVD.

Alan Gorman (Swords), Alannah Kelly (Finglas), Lindsey Sweetman (Dublin 1), Stephen Peters (Sandymount) and Jamie Pim (Glencullen) were among the members of CanTeen Ireland involved in the DVD titled

‘The Big C Ain’t Gonna Stop Me!’

Featuring CanTeen Ireland members from all over the country who have or are currently going through cancer treatment, the DVD includes interviews, chats and stories by members on their personal experiences and how CanTeen has been there to help.

Each year it is estimated that 200 teenagers are diagnosed with cancer. The DVD is a guide to teenage cancer that aims to show how the right support can make a world of difference to a teen who might be feeling upset and alone.

CanTeen currently has over 260 members ranging in age from 12 to 25 years. Throughout the year it organise weekends away to various activity centres all over Ireland and even as far as New Zealand. CanTeen was founded in 1990 by a dedicated group of volunteers. It has no core funding and depends entirely on voluntary contributions.

As well as launching its DVD, CanTeen Ireland will host its annual winter ball on Saturday, November 8 in the Crowne Plaza in Santry. Comedian Steve Cummins, a veteran of the Laughter Lounge in Dublin, will MC the ball, which will be attended by CanTeen members, their families, and friends of the charity.

Dr Charles Gillham of St Luke’s Hospital will speak on the night, alongside CanTeen members.
