A PUBLIC meeting is being held in Drimnagh this week as part of a new drugs awareness initiative that was launched recently by Frances Black.

Earlier this month the singer launched this year’s Dublin 12 Local Drug & Alcohol Task Force Drugs Awareness Campaign

‘Let’s Talk About Drugs’ at Our Lady’s Hall on Mourne Road.
The first event of the campaign, a drama called

‘Blossom’ that was staged on the night as well as a matinee earlier in the day, was attended by over 700 people.

The newly written play addresses the issues of alcohol and other drugs in the community. The drama was created by playwright Patricia McCann and actor Joan Pierce alongside the Dublin Drug Education Worker and young people of St John Bosco Youth Centre.

The launch event was just one of many taking place over the duration of the campaign, which is organised by the Dublin 12 Local Drugs & Alcohol Task Force in conjunction with local services in the area. The aim of the campaign is to highlight the huge role drugs and alcohol play in some lives.

The Task Force aims to focus on drug use in Dublin 12 and more importantly the supports that are available to drug users and their families to address the addiction.

Other events during the campaign include drug education workshops in local schools, a

‘Quit for Youth’ smoking cessation programme in Youthreach as well as the commencement of an alcohol awareness programme.

There was also a 5km

‘Walk for Health’ last Thursday. As part of the campaign the D12 Local Policing Forum will hold a public meeting on Wednesday, October 22 in Fr Lar Redmond Hall, Drimnagh. The focus on the night will again be on drug related issues.
