A LOCAL visually impaired climber is proving that his disability doesn’t have to reduce his fitness levels or hamper his enjoyment of life.

Dominic Meenagh, from Killala Road, Cabra West, plays sports regularly and last month he took part in a charity climb up Carrauntoohil, Ireland’s highest summit.
Dominic often takes part in arduous mountain climbs to raise funds for the National Council for the Blind and this weekend (October 10-12) he’ll be going uphill again.

That’s because he’ll be taking part in the 17th annual Autumn Charity Challenge in Westport, Co Mayo, which offers some of the best walking in the west in support of visually impaired people. The base for the event is the four star Knockranny House Hotel and there are seven walks on offer to suit all fitness levels.

The routes include an ascent of Mweelrea, the highest mountain in Connaught, a traverse of the Croagh Patrick Mountain Ridge and a low-level ramble on the Great Western Greenway. Volunteers are needed to join in and it costs

?¬169 for the weekend. The price includes bed and breakfast for two nights and a gala dinner with entertainment.

For further information call Michael Sutton on 086-4009989 or email [email protected]. Full information on the choice of walks is available online at midtipphillwalkers.ie.
