Caution urged on jobs figures

A NORTHSIDE TD has warned that more needs to be done to ensure that the unemployment rate continues to plummet.
Reform Alliance TD for Dublin Bay North, Terence Flanagan, made the call after latest figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show a further decline in the amount of people on the Live Register.
The Live Register in September (2014) stood at 370,050, a reduction of 38,620 (9 per cent) on September 2013 and 59,285 (14 per cent) on September 2012.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate now stands at 11.1 per cent, down from a crisis peak of 15.1 per cent in 2012.
And encouragingly for the Northside, there has been a significant reduction in the amount of people signing on.
In Balbriggan, a total of 4,704 were signing on in September 2013 but that has now been reduced to 4,305, a drop of 8.48 per cent, while in Swords, there has been a drop of 16.48 per cent for the same period (4,380 in 2013 down to 3,658 in 2014).
Deputy Flanagan said progress was clearly being made getting more people back to work.

“However, much more needs to be done to ensure that the unemployment rate reduces further,

? he told Northside People.

“Unemployment of 11.2 per cent is still incredibly high and the Government must continue working hard to prevent our talented workforce from emigrating.

Deputy Flanagan said he was particularly concerned about youth unemployment and the lack of opportunities that were available for those who finish school or graduate from third-level education.
