SHE’S THE ONE: Barbara ‘The 1′ Delaney, pictured with her impressive haul of kickboxing titles, is sure to attract a large crowd to Artane this weekend.

A LOCAL woman will be bidding for more kickboxing glory this weekend in a world title fight that’s taking place on the Northside.

Six-time Full Contact Kickboxing Champion Barbara Delaney takes on Spanish Kickboxing Champion Katie Diaz for the World International Martial Arts Association and Organisation (WIMAAO) professional World Championship over 10×2 minute rounds at the Artane Beaumont Family Recreation Centre (ABFRC) this Saturday, October 4.

Delaney, known as

‘The 1’, is one of Ireland’s most decorated champions holding 16 titles in all.

In 2011, the Beaumont native captured an unprecedented four World Championships and one European Championship in an eight-month period. Barbara’s aggressive in your face style makes her one of the most exciting fighters around today.

The

‘Night of the 1’ also has seven other title fights on the bill, featuring some of Ireland’s best kickboxers.

Dublin’s Dave Cowley takes on Belfast’s Stewart Beatty for the Legends Title. These two pioneers of the sport step back into the ring one more time in what should be a classic.

Other attractions on the night include Stephen MacAfee defending his WIMAAO Five Nations title against Anand Aparajithan, Ritchie Kiely takes on Neil Ryan for the WIMAAO Irish Title and Lindsey Doyle will face Stacey Dougherty in a prestige fight.

The doors of the ABFRC open at 7pm and the show starts at 8pm.
