SMITHFIELD Amateur Boxing Club is hosting an intercultural tournament and festival at Dublin City Council’s Aughrim Street Sports Centre from September 29 to October 5.

Now in its fifth year, Smithfield Box Fest is designed to promote cultural social inclusion by showing how boxing can be used as a successful tool for integration.
The week will include a boxing tournament that will take place over two of the days (October 4 and 5) and will involve over 100 boxers from various countries.
There’ll also be a training camp for the participants and various intercultural activities.
Coach and Secretary of Smithfield Boxing Club, Desmond Maguire, said it promises to be a great week.
“The participants in Smithfield Box Fest may be battling each other during the tournament but they will also look beyond their battles and cultural differences to gain friendships with people from across the world,
? he added.
Head Coach of Smithfield Amateur Boxing Club, Igor Khmil, said there’ll be lots of teams competing in the tournament.
“The Festival will show how sport has no boundaries or limits and I know that all the teams will come together in a spirit of sportsmanship and fairness,
? he continued.
Cultural evenings will also be organised during the festival to promote the traditional cuisine, language, history, music and customs of each participating country.
