North Circular Road goes Underground

ONE of the Northside’s most historic streets will take centre stage in the debut feature film of Irish writer and director, Donal Nugent, next week.

The movie called North Circular Road will premiere at the Underground Film Festival in Dun Laoghaire on September 14.
It’s a supernatural drama starring Lorna Larkin (The Light of Day) and Pat O’Donnell (Tin Can Man, The Looking Glass), that tells the story of weather forecaster, Janice Cadogan, who begins to see disturbing visions of a troubled couple in her new home.
Co-starring Patrick Molloy, fresh from Game of Thrones, and German actress Vanessa Richter, North Circular Road is a tightly plotted, suspense-filled drama brought to screen by producers Kathy Horgan and Michael Parle (star of the forthcoming Night People) of Dark Window Media.
Nugent describes his film as a mixture of intrigue, drama and black comedy, heavily influenced by a childhood diet of Woody Allen and Alfred Hitchcock.
The film is also an homage to a part of the city that has always interested him.
“When I first came to Dublin as a student, I was intrigued by this stretch of gloomy Victorian terraces winding its way across the city,
? he says.
“It was hard not to wonder about the lives of the people who lived in its houses. North Circular Road was inspired by this sense of mystery and by the ghosts of past and present.
“The street is more than just a location in the film – there’s a circular element to the story that’s revealed in a dramatic plot twist.

Producer Michael Parle describes North Circular Road as
“a beautifully crafted film with wonderful performances from a hugely talented cast.
“This film is proof, if it was needed, that independent cinema is alive and well in Ireland,
? he added.
“It was created through the sheer determination and passion of everyone involved and stands as a wonderful piece of entertainment that will be enjoyed by audiences around the world.
