Gardai issue fresh appeal on Raonaid’s murder

GARDAI in Dun Laoghaire have said that solving the brutal murder of local teenager Raonaid Murray remains an utmost priority for them.

In a statement issued on the 15th anniversary of the killing of the 17-year-old in September 1999, the gardai appealed for help in catching those responsible for her death.
“The solving of this murder is of the utmost priority for An Garda SÃochána and any information received will be treated with absolute confidentiality,
? the gardai stated.
“September 4, 2014 mark- ed the 15th anniversary of the brutal murder of Raonaid. The gardai remain fully committed to the investigation into Raonaid’s murder.
“The full-time Incident Room remains in situ at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station and the Serious Crime Review Team at NBCI, Garda HQ, continues to provide invaluable assistance to the investigation team at Dun Laoghaire.

Gardai released details of what happened on the night Raonaid was killed.
At the time Raonaid worked at a clothes shop then known as Sally West in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre.
She left the shop at approximately 9pm on September 3, 1999 and went with a friend to Scott’s Public House, also in Dun Laoghaire.
She made arrangements with a friend to go to a nightclub later that night.
She left Scott’s at approximately 11.20pm to go home and change before heading to the nightclub.
“Her house is about a 15-minute walk from Scott’s Public House,
? gardai stated.
“Her body was then found at Silchester Crescent in Glenageary at 12.33am, on Saturday, September 4, 1999, less than 500 yards from her home.

Gardai said extensive lines of enquiries
“have been and continue to be
? pursued by the investigation team.
“We are again renewing our appeal for any information which may assist in our continued investigation,
? they added.
“If any person has any information which could assist in identifying a motive for the murder of Raonaid and/or if any person has any doubts about the veracity of an alibi provided, we would appeal for your immediate assistance.

The gardai said that Raonaid’s family had also appealed to the public for any information that may lead to the arrest of her killer.
