Council urged to take action in Lanesborough

FINGAL County Council is being called on to address serious road safety issues at Lanesborough estate in Finglas.

Local residents have been complaining that the estate is plagued by illegal parking and Independent councillor, Justin Sinnott, has described the situation as

“absolutely critical

?.

“The current situation in relation to parking will lead to a fatality if not addressed immediately,

? he said.

Gardaí have recently begun issuing tickets to illegally parked cars in the estate but Cllr Sinnott believes existing double yellow lines need to be relined. However, council officials say there’s currently no money available in the budget for the work.

“It is regrettable that we cannot attend to Lanesborough immediately,

? a council official said.

The official added that the council could only consider requests for relining if monies are available in the budget adopted annually by councillors.

“It is possible that there will be limited monies available for relining when the already committed works have been carried out,

? the official continued.

Cllr Sinnott has been given a commitment that relining in Lanesborough will be considered if funding becomes available. However, he says the work needs to be done as soon as possible.

“It is clear to me that this has not be done for years,

? he added.

“Further I have been told that there are other priority areas in the rest of county with Rush and Lusk being named as two areas.

“After years of underinvestment I am at a loss to see why Lanesborough is a lower priority. The entrance is an accident waiting to happen and the fact that lining has not been done in years means that it is being exploited.”

The council denied there was any favouritism when it came to selecting areas for works.

“As officials we try to prioritise lining, signing and relining works based on accepted criteria – road safety assessment, road usage data analysis, accident history etc.
