THE Ardmore Hotel in Finglas is set to become a nursing home under plans outlined in a new planning application.

The application lodged with Dublin City Council earlier this month seeks a change of use to convert the hotel into a nursing home. Under the plan the hotel will be transformed from a 96 bedroom hotel into an 83 bed nursing home.

Permission is sought for a five storey basement extension to the northern side of the building to provide a lift and a lobby area. A stair core extension to the western side of the building and 53 parking spaces are also included in the plan.

Dublin City Councillor, Paul McAuliffe (FF), said he was disappointed at the possible closure of the Ardmore, currently the only hotel in the Finglas Area.

“If planning permission is granted our area will lose an important facility which is accessible to the whole community,

? he said.

“Any small town needs good quality conference and accommodation facilities to attract tourism and business. The hotel is well located only a short distance from some of the country’s biggest tourist attractions, Glasnevin Cemetery and the Botanic gardens.

“While nursing home places are also needed in the area, I will be asking planners if this change of use is consistent with the City Development Plan.

Observations or objections to the plan can be made to Dublin City Council up until August 19.
