A NORTHSIDE school has secured funding for seven new permanent classrooms and a bathroom.

St Sylvester’s Infants’ National School received confirmation from the Department of Education that it has been awarded a grant to build seven new classrooms and bathroom facilities.

Malahide based Senator Darragh O’Brien (FF), who has been involved in a long campaign with the school’s staff, board of management and parents, described it as a

“major coup

? for St Sylvester’s to secure investment for proper facilities.

“At the moment classes are being held in totally inappropriate prefabs,

? Senator O’Brien told Northside People.

“The school has been operating with outdated and inadequate facilities for years, posing significant difficulties for the children and staff.

“I am delighted that now after a long campaign we have finally secured a grant from the Department to proceed with the design and construction of the permanent classrooms and bathroom facilities.

“When complete, this will allow the prefabs to be removed completely and all classes will be held in the main school building.

Senator O’Brien paid tribute to the school’s principal, Sharon Dunne, her staff, the board of management and all the parents who have campaigned tirelessly over the past number of years.

“I have had the privilege of working closely with the school on this campaign and it’s clear that their hard work and dedication has now finally paid off,

? he added.

“I am urging the Department of Education to progress this project quickly to ensure that the new and improved St Sylvester’s can be up and running as quickly as possible.
