ELDERLY people who are clients at three Finglas day care centres battled it out in a variety of fun sports last week for their annual sports challenge.

The clients, who ranged in age from 69 to 96, from Odin’s Wood Day Care Centre (HSE), Nethercross Day Care Centre (Respond) and Clareville Day Care Centre (Dublin City Council) gathered in the sports ground of the Mater Christi Girls’ School in Finglas last Wednesday, May 21.

During the events older people with varying levels of ability took part in a series of fun rallies of bowling, shooting, hoops, basketball, golf, darts, horse shoes and ten can shootout.

Participants were separated into various countries and the sporty oldies wore clothes from the nations they represented

All participants live independently in the community with the help of day care support, meals on wheels, nursing and home help.

The day care centres provide them with personal care, meals and a stimulating range of activities.
