CYCLING has never been more popular in our fair city – and county with a stage of the Giro d’Italia running along our coastline last weekend, and the An Post Ras taking place next week.

Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly got in the mood last week when he championed a Skerries

‘Fitness for All’ street party to celebrate the Ras.

The 62nd An Post Rás is set to roll into Skerries for a record ninth consecutive year on Sunday, May 25. The Skerries End Stage Rás Committee is delighted that Minister Reilly is championing this year’s

‘Fitness for All’ themed street party.

Minister Reilly visited Skerries last week to lend his support to the community’s preparations for this major event.

A gigantic street party will kick off the day (May 25) at 1pm. This year’s theme is to celebrate all that Skerries offers for an active and healthy lifestyle.

There will be fun for all the family on Strand Street with sports clubs, static bikes, fitness testing and challenges, healthy eating stalls plus all the usual fairground games, face-painting, magic shows, crafts and cake stalls organised by dozens of schools, volunteer and community groups.

The gruelling End Stage climax of the famous round-Ireland cycle race will be welcomed into the picturesque seaside town where a huge crowd is anticipated to bring eight tough days in the saddle to a stirring, atmospheric end.
