IF you fancy some quality entertainment locally, Baldoyle is the place to be next week.

Baldoyle Musical Society’s production of Cole Porter’s much loved musical comedy
‘Anything Goes’ will be staged at St Mary’s Secondary School, from April 22-26 nightly at 8pm.
Tickets are priced at e15 for adults and e12 for children and OAPs, and can be booked on 085-1378329 or at www.baldoylemusicalsociety.ie. Group discounts are also available.
As usual the society will serve up a visual and aural treat with dazzling sets and stunning costumes, along with a top class cast of talented locals supported by a large orchestra under the baton of musical director Sarah Lynch Barrett.
Regarded as one of the greatest musicals in theatre history,
‘Anything Goes’ is set in the Jazz age on a cruise liner sailing from New York to London.
When the SS American heads out to sea, etiquette and convention get tossed out the portholes as two unlikely pairs set off on the course to true love
?¦ proving that sometimes destiny needs a little help from a crew of singing sailors, an exotic disguise, some hilarious mistaken identities, and some good old-fashioned blackmail.
Peppering this timeless classic are some of musical theatre’s most memorable standards, including
‘I Get A Kick Out Of You’,
‘You’re the Top’, and of course,
‘Anything Goes’.
Richie Smith directs his first show in Baldoyle Musical Society in 10 years, and has stamped his mark on this production.
“The preparations for
‘Anything Goes’ have been challenging but very enjoyable,
? Mr Smith told Northside People.
“Baldoyle Musical Society’s musical productions in recent years have set a very high standard, so the cast and chorus have worked very hard to ensure our audiences continue to be thrilled.
“On the other hand, the fact that the show is a rollicking comedy from beginning to end has meant we have had great fun during rehearsals.
Choreographer Trisha Mc Dermott concurs.
“It’s been both exhilarating and exhausting but the end result will be spectacular,
? she said.
“We have a large chorus and have really pushed the boat out with some of the big dance numbers, which will really hop off the stage. We think the audiences will love the show.
?
A lot of work has gone into other aspects of the production too, where the society have pushed new boundaries in designing a set to recreate the deck of the
‘SS American’. The spectacular costumes add the final touches to bring the style and feel of the 1930s back to life.
Chairperson Alan Whyte said:
“Baldoyle Musical Society was founded as a community-based group over 40 years ago and we are very grateful for the support given by our audiences from the locality.
“It is heartening to see the society go from strength to strength, with a great influx of new members in recent years.
Mr Whyte added:
“
‘Anything Goes’ is a great showcase for local talent and we look forward to welcoming both regular audience members and
‘first timers’ to Baldoyle next week.
