Finglas Village set for a clean sweep
Dublin People 29 Mar 2014
THE Finglas Tidy Towns Committee, in conjunction with the National Spring Clean and Dublin City Council, will be out in force in their village this Saturday, April 5, from 10am to 12 noon when they hold their annual Sweep N’Clean event.

Over 60 volunteers made last year’s event a huge success and it is anticipated the turnout will be surpassed this year.
Everyone is encouraged to come along to the Library car park at Finglas Village Main Centre and lend their support. There will be no need to bring anything but yourself and lots of enthusiasm, as all equipment will be provided!
And if you cannot make it on the day, you are welcome to join the Finglas Tidy Towns members as they commence their weekly clean up on Tuesday April 8 at 6.30pm at Finglas Library. This clean-up will continue on a weekly basis until the end of July 2014.
Philomena Murphy, chairperson of Finglas Tidy Towns, said:
“The Sweep N’Clean event kicks off the annual work of Finglas Tidy Towns.
“As a volunteer, I achieved a great personal satisfaction in having a clean village.
“It gives a positive outlook on Finglas – our village! It’s also a great way to socialise and meet new people.

Meanwhile, Saint Fergal’s Boys’ National School, Cappagh Road, will also tackle their school grounds and surrounding area on Tuesday, April 1.
All 120 students will be taking part with many schools in the Finglas and Ballymun area following suit.
Around 200 pupils and teachers from Our Lady of Victories Girls’ National School will be cleaning up Ballymun on Wednesday, April 9.
The National Spring Clean campaign – now in its 16th year – is Ireland’s largest anti-litter initiative organised by An Taisce and funded by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
To celebrate this year’s campaign, An Taisce is also hosting a photo competition on Instagram. Entrants are asked to share images of the most beautiful spots in their local areas tagging National Spring Clean (nationalspringclean) and using the hashtag #LoveWhereYouLive.
The best pictures will be posted to the campaign’s Facebook page and the winner will receive a relaxing break in the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel.
All volunteers registering for the National Spring Clean campaign are issued with a FREE clean up kit which contains important information, posters, colour-coded refuse sacks for segregation of waste materials, protective gloves and tabards to keep participants clean.
All those wishing to take part should register on www.nationalspringclean.org or call 01-4002219.
