New Fine Gael candidate continues a family tradition

JOSEPHA Madigan, who announced recently that she has been selected to stand for Fine Gael in the upcoming local elections in the Dublin Rathdown constituency, is continuing a family tradition started by her father Patrick Madigan, who represented the Dún Laoghaire electorate for 14 years.

“I have been around politics for most of my life and felt that the time was right for me to step forward and enter public life.

Educated in Mount Anville and Trinity College, Josepha has been a practicing solicitor for over 16 years and heads the Family Law and Civil Litigation Department of Madigan’s Solicitors.

With deep roots in the community, Josepha has involved herself with many aspects of local life and she is a member of Mount Merrion Parish Baptism committee, Mount Merrion Residents’ Association (MMRA) and Scoil San Treasa Parents’ Association.

Married to Finbarr Hayes, an advertising executive, with two sons, Daniel (10) who attends Willow Park School and Luke (8) who attends Scoil San Treasa National School, Josepha has close connections with many parents in the area.

Her political ties with the ward extend back to her father, former Fianna Fail and independent councillor, Patrick Mad­igan, who represented the Dún Laoghaire electorate for 14 years.

“I have lived in the Stillorgan Ward all my life and am passionate about local issues that not only affect my area but those who live in the greater Dún Laoghaire Rathdown constituency,

? she added.

“Having grown up in a political family I understand the commitment involved A native of Foxrock, Josepha moved to Mount Merrion with her husband over 10 years ago.

“I am thrilled to be selected to represent my friends and neighbours in the next local elections,

? she said.

At the announcement of her candidacy Josepha indicated that she is already working to improve life for those within her ward and will happily work to help resolve issues in advance of the election if they are brought to her attention.
