STAFF at eBay and PayPal in Dublin 15 helped select the 17 national and local charity projects that received funding grants totalling almost e45,000 from eBay’s GIVE Foundation last week.

The cheques were presented to the charities during a ceremony held PayPal’s European Centre of Excellence in Blanchardstown on February 10.

The GIVE grants were handed out to the charities nominated by employees at the two hi-tech multinational firms.

Amongst those to benefit from funding are transition year students in Blanchardstown who’ll be trained in lifesaving CPR skills by the Irish Heart Foundation and the Blakestown and Mountview Neighbourhood Youth Project programme that offers support to families in the Dublin 15 area.

Both eBay and PayPal have a strong history of supporting local communities where they operate and are members of the Business in the Community (BITC) initiative in Ireland.

Through the eBay GIVE Foundation they try to make a difference with organisations that have particular significance for their employees.

Speaking at last week’s ceremony Louise Phelan, Vice President of PayPal’s Global Operations, said the company prides itself on giving back to local communities.

“The 17 charities who are receiving funding today were picked on the basis of recommendations from our employees and I look forward to working with them throughout 2014 as we help to raise further much needed funds,

? she added.

“Each of our chosen charities carry out hugely important work, and I am delighted that we, as a company, can offer support to their cause.

Director at eBay Global Customer Experience, Hazel Mitchell, praised Ireland’s impressive record of giving as a nation and said it had helped transform people’s lives.

“Our employees are generous with their money and their time,

? she continued.

“Since 1998 our GIVE Foundation has contributed to local projects in the communities where we’re located. It’s another reason why we love doing business in Ireland. Our people here are fantastic in so many ways and this is just one more example of that.
