NORTHSIDE rugby fans may have wondered why Leinster ditched their regular Bank of Ireland shirts for one displaying the name of their local butchers during their recent Heineken Cup clash with the Ospreys.

The Gahan Meats name was emblazoned on the shirts after they won a competition for businesses organised by the bank and was part of a prize package worth at least

?¬50,000.

The

‘Sponsor for a Day’ prize also included pitch signage, corporate hospitality for ten guests, a match programme advert, photographs with the team and profiling support from Bank of Ireland and Leinster Rugby.

Run by Declan, Veronica, Nigel and James Gahan, the third generation local butchers have being going strong for 60 years. The company supplies meats to a large number of top hotels and caterers in Leinster and won the

‘Best Supplier’ award at the National Procurement Awards 2011 in conjunction with TIFCO Hotel Group.

Gahan Meats have two retail outlets, a factory shop off the North Road in Finglas and a traditional butcher shop on Collins Avenue Killester. Nigel Gahan said everybody involved in the company was delighted with their big day out for the Ospreys game.

“We were thrilled when we were selected as the winners to sponsor the Leinster Rugby team,

? he said.

“Everyone at Gahan Meats was very proud to see the company logo on the players’ jerseys and around the stadium. It was a true honour to be associated with such a successful team like Leinster Rugby.

“The competition has been a fantastic outlet for us to highlight our company both on a national and international stage. The response we have received from our customers has been overwhelming and I am sure this positive exposure will continue long after the match.

Head of Small Business and Agri at Bank of Ireland Business Banking, Gerry Prizeman, congratulated the company and said the competition had been a resounding success.

“It was an ideal opportunity for Bank of Ireland to give back to the business community,

? he said.

“Congratulations to Gahan Meats on winning the chance to sponsor the Leinster Rugby team. I am delighted that the competition has had such a positive impact for everyone in the company and we hope that the business will accrue many benefits from their association with the Leinster team.
