MINISTER for Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Jimmy Deenihan, is to grant e10,250 towards the Clontarf Heritage Trail.
The trail, which will form a key part of this year’s Battle of Clontarf commemorations, will have a series of heritage boards erected on the Promenade between Alfie Byrne Road and the Wooden Bridge.
The six boards will outline the story of the Vikings, Brian Boru and the Battle of Clontarf in word, map and illustration in Irish and English.
Dublin Bay North TD and Minister for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, Richard Bruton, welcomed the funding announcement.
“I’m delighted that it has been possible for Government to fund this extremely worthwhile initiative,
? said Minister Bruton.
“I would like to thank Minister Deenihan for the support he has given.
?
Minister Bruton added:
“I would like to wish Collette Gill and the Commemoration Committee well as they go about organising a fantastic series of events to commemorate the Battle of Clontarf. This includes re-enactments and a lecture series.”
The first event of the year long programme – an evening lecture by local historian and author, Dennis McIntyre, entitled
‘A Clontarf perspective on the Battle of Clontarf’ – was held on January 13.
The event was organised jointly by Clontarf Historical Society and Raheny Heritage Society.
