Local success adds to positive signs on the jobs front
Dublin People 14 Dec 2013
TAOISEACH Enda Kenny was in Tallaght recently where he attended the official opening of the headquarters of one of the world’s leading providers of fleet management solutions for small and medium-sized businesses.
A total of 24 new jobs were created when Fleetmatics increased its head count by close to 50 per cent at its Southside hub.
The company also plans to employ a further two high-end software developers and three database developers in the short-term.
This latest good news on the local jobs front follows the announcement that 29 new jobs are being created by Brandtone, a mobile marketing company based in the South Docklands area.
Brandtone is investing e2 million in a major research and development programme with significant support from the Department of Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation through Enterprise Ireland.
Meanwhile, the famous Donnybrook Fair opened the doors of its fifth fine food store recently in their new Dublin 2 setting.
Located at Gallery Quay, Grand Canal Square, the opening of the 1,300sqm store led to the creation of a further 20 new jobs.
These local successes appear to bear out recent figures that the private sector has been creating an average of 1,200 jobs per week for the past year.
CSO statistics also show that 22,500 jobs have been added across the country in the past three months.
Taoiseach Enda Kenny TD said that creating better conditions for new jobs was the Government’s top priority.
“I am confident that the implementation of the Action Plan for Jobs has contributed to Ireland’s rising reputation as a location for enterprise and investment,
? he said.
“Over 1,000 new jobs are being created every week and there are positive signs that business confidence is rising.
“There is still much more we have to do before we can claim that Ireland is the best small country in the world for business. We will continue to deliver on the reforms necessary to reduce business costs and to make Ireland more competitive.
?
FG candidate Jason O’Callaghan said the figures were extremely encouraging.
“They clearly show that the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs is working,
? he said.
“What is particularly heartening is that as well as new jobs coming on stream, the rate of job creation is also accelerating sharply.
?
Fine Gael Dublin South Central TD, Catherine Byrne, welcomed the latest Live Register figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO), which show that the number of people out of work in the Dublin area had dropped by 5,398 over the last 12 months.
“These are yet more encouraging figures from the Live Register, which show that the national unemployment rate has fallen for the 17th month in a row,
? she said.
“While this rate remains too high, these figures clearly show that the downward trend in unemployment figures is well established, as more and more people get back to work.
