Walk to be held for Fiachra’s family
Dublin People 16 Nov 2013
A WALK is to be held to support the family of Fiachra Daly, the former resident of Priory Hall who died tragically in July.
The Big Howth Walk 2013 will take place on Sunday, December 1 with registration between 11am and 12.30pm at the Waterside Bar.
Depending on the weather, the registration will either take place on the promenade across from the Waterside or in the Waterside itself. It’s expected that the walk around the Hill of Howth will take approximately two to three hours.
Members of the public are invited to join Fiachra’s family and friends for the walk, which will finish at the Waterside. The cost for registration is $10 and participants will receive a commemorative wristband and on completion of the walk, a hot cup of soup.
To register online, or if you can’t make it on the day and would like to donate, visit thebighowthwalk2013.wix.com/thebighowthwalk2013 click “Donate”, click
“I don’t have an account” and enter your details. Print the final page and present on the day to receive your wristband.
All registration monies will go towards the family fund. At Stephanie Meehan’s (Fiachra’s partner) request there will be a bucket collection on the day with all proceeds going to Barnardos.
Malachi Shanks (37), who is part of the committee organising the event, said this is something very close to his heart.
“I was a very close friend of Fiachra’s,
? Malachi told Northside People.
“I knew Fiachra for years and Stephanie. The three of us worked together in the Waterhouse Bar at one stage.
“It was a massive shock when I heard what happened. We grew up together in Howth. Fiachra had a number of jobs and was well known from working in the pubs and restaurants.
“It was a massive blow to lose him. He adored his kids (Oisin and Cerys) and Stephanie, and loved his job. He was a very friendly guy.
?
For the occasion, the committee has ordered 1,600 yellow wristbands to be given out on the day. ‘Fiachra 2013’ will be inscribed on them.
“We are hoping for a big turnout,
? added Malachi.
“It’s an opportunity for the community to come together and remember Fiachra.
