MORE than 200 events are taking place all across Dublin this week as Science Week 2013 gets underway.

‘Exploring the XTRA-Ordinary’, which runs until Sunday, November 17, is going behind the scenes and examining amazing scientific processes that take place in everyday life.

Science plays a vital role in all our lives, from brushing teeth to the grass that grows in the fields and how our body heals and mends itself.

Interactive workshops, science shows, family fun days and exhibitions will reveal these processes through Science Week festivals with many highlights taking place in Dublin.

There will be free screenings of movies such as

‘Back to the Future’ and

‘ET’ in the Church Restaurant on Wednesday, November 13, and in Cineworld, Parnell Street, on Thursday, November 14.

Doyle’s pub on College Street will be hosting the return of the popular science table quiz on Thursday, November 14, at 7pm, while the Curiosity Lab @ Science Week will host hands-on workshops, adventures in electronics, interactive installations, games and curious technology at Dublin’s Filmbase in Temple Bar on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 November.

The amazing science behind the food we eat every day will be on the menu with a series of bake clubs being hosted by the multi talented Louise Lennox (leading chef, food writer and broadcast personality) in Kitchen Compliments on South Anne Street on Sunday, November 17.

In addition, Louise will demonstrate the mind-bending molecular gastronomy made possible by science, which will challenge and delight the senses.

Step into the Le Cool Compound for a scientific assault on the senses on Thursday 14 and Saturday 16, November in the Gallery of Photography.

Play the Game of Life, an interactive light installation from the bursting brains of tech-genii that are Tom O’Dea and Lightscape, or encounter sound sensations as Designgoat get you into the groove.

Speaking about her involvement with Science Week, Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin said:

“I am delighted to be involved with Science Week and encourage everyone to get involved to see how science influences their lives.
