Councillor warns of bogus collectors
Dublin People 02 Nov 2013
A NORTHSIDE councillor is urging residents to be wary of bogus door-to-door collectors.

Cllr Darragh Butler (FF), who represents the Swords ward, said there was an incident over the October bank holiday weekend when suspected bogus collectors were reportedly knocking on doors in Broadmeadows, Southbank and other estates around Swords.
“They were pretending to be collecting money on behalf of the Swords Needs Playgrounds group,
? he said.
“We have had similar incidents in the past with regard to sports clubs, boxing clubs and old folks’ homes.

Cllr Butler advised people not to hand over money unless they are 100 per cent certain that the cause is genuine. He urged people to contact gardai in Swords on 01-6664700 if they have any doubts about the authenticity of callers.
Marica Killi, chairperson of Swords Needs Playgrounds, confirmed to Northside People that there were reports of people purporting to be collecting on their behalf.
“We have reached our target and all our fundraising is stopped,
? she said.
“We would like to thank all those who fundraised and those who contributed to the playgrounds project.
