Award for local housing develop
Dublin People 27 Oct 2013
A LOCAL housing development for people with disabilities has been selected as a category winner at this year’s Community Housing Awards.
The 17 unit development at Avondale Court, Parslickstown, in Blanchardstown is managed by the Housing Association for Integrated Living (HAIL).
HAIL is a voluntary housing body with over 200 properties in the greater Dublin area, providing housing and individually tailored services to support those with a range of housing needs, primarily those with mental health difficulties, to integrate and live independent lives in the community.
The organisation was recently short listed for and won the prestigious Housing for People with Disabilities category at the Community Housing Awards.
The awards were presented by Minster for Housing, Jan O’Sullivan, at the Irish Council for Social Housing’s Biennial National Social Housing Conference in Wexford last month.
HAIL Housing Officer, Angela Lynch, said the organisation was delighted to win the award.
“We believe strongly that this development, delivered in partnership with Fingal County Council, NABCO and the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government, is at the forefront of housing for those with disabilities,
? she said.
HAIL tenants, Michael White and Kay McShane, said their apartment in Avondale Court has made a big difference to their quality of life.
“The apartment is a godsend, it is fantastic, we couldn’t ask for better,
? Michael said.
“We were looking for something suitable to our needs and we found it here.
?
The success of Avondale Court has encouraged HAIL to go ahead with its plan to obtain a further e1million under the Capital Assistant Scheme (CAS) for the purchase of additional apartments in the Fingal County Council area.
