Was Enda to blame for referendum result?
Dublin People 13 Oct 2013
Enda Kenny was on a political crusade to abolish Seanad Eireann and was pushing for a Yes vote in the referendum held earlier this month. Now he’s taking the rap for the No result. We asked our Facebook followers if the Taoiseach was personally to blame for the outcome. Here’s an edited selection of some of the comments we received.

Mandy Daly: Well, why not? He’s to blame for everything else that’s wrong with this country. He should resign.
Carmel Anderson Foley: I agree with you, Mandy.
Tanya Brunton: Yep, he’s to blame for everything. He doesn’t care about the people of this country.
Natasha Skelly: Without a doubt.
Grace Costigan (SF): A leader that cannot be bothered to put forward his views. Perhaps he didn’t believe in his own agenda. There’s every possibility the recent referendum has served its purpose for the Government as a deliberate distraction from the Budget. It’s clear from the low voter turnout that people feel let down by our political system. The Government must now put in place serious and genuine options for reform and not simply use the Seanad as a conveniently distracting topic of debate before inflicting further austerity budgets on the people.
Stephen Fitzgerald: He is the blame for everything.
Wayne Flanagan Tobin: No, Enda Kenny wasn’t just to blame but also all of the parties who thought it was a good idea to get rid of part of our democracy, including Labour, Sinn Fein and the Socialist Party.
Brian Byrne: Do you think The Taoiseach is responsible for the failure to get a Yes vote on his own pet project? To that the answer is a Resounding YES.
Anton Core: Yes, it was his idea to abolish the Seanad. He should have led from the front. Martin, who did a U-turn on his views on the Seanad, comes out of this looking good.
Robbie O Donnell: Yes, he is responsible. The country is on it knees over him. Why don’t they tax the rich and leave us normal part-time workers alone. Rant over!
