Gold Awards for Raheny Guides

Dublin People 05 Oct 2013
Rhianna Dougan and Aishling Quinn, members of the Raheny Guides, were recipients of Gold Awards.

GUIDES from all over Ireland visited the Law Society Building in Dublin recently to receive their Chief Commissioner Award (CCA) from the Catholic Guides of Ireland.

Guides receiving this award have set themselves above the standard challenges of the Guiding programme.

The award encourages and rewards those who want to try something a little different. Successful participants receive a silver pin and outstanding participants acquire the gold pin.

As part of their preparation for the award the Guides must fulfil a number of varied projects including learning a new skill such as quilting to high-adrenaline sports such as zip-lining, and fundraising projects including subcontracting for personal letters for Santa.

Raheny had a strong representation among the finalists with both Rhianna Dougan and Aishling Quinn being the recipients of Gold Awards.

The other award finalists were Aoife Byrne, Sarah Dixon, Jodie Doyle, Chloe Gleeson, Julianna Goggins, Chloe Keeling (Gold), Chloe Kehoe, Sadhbh Lynam (Gold), Lily Maxwell (Gold), Olivia McCoy, Sarah Mooney, Tara Nixon, and Zara Frayne Wright.

Cllr Gerry Ashe, representing the Lord Mayor of Dublin on the day, said:

“The strength of Ireland has always been her young people.

“It is clear from the vision and enterprise demonstrated by the Guides who have participated in this award programme that the future is in very good hands.
