Thousands apply for Northside jobs
Dublin People 28 Sep 2013
THERE was good news on the jobs front locally last week with a number of companies making significant announcements.

These include Heatons, who will create 55 jobs with the opening of a new store at Northside Shopping Centre, Coolock in November; Stream Global Services in Dublin is to recruit 50 permanent positions at its facilities in Swords and Santry, with another 200 seasonal jobs to be created in the lead up to Christmas; and Twitter will double the size of its European headquarters in Dublin by the end of 2014, creating an additional 100 jobs.
A spokeswoman for Heatons, one of Ireland’s leading value retailers, told Northside People that they had already received a huge response to a recruitment advertisement which they took out in this newspaper.
“We advertised on September 11 and had thousands of applicants,
? she stated.
Heatons has made a substantial investment of more than
?¬1 million in developing its 53rd store in Coolock. It will incorporate a new design format for Heatons and will span over three floors in total.
The 14,500 square foot premises will have a dedicated SportsWorld floor, as well as providing the local community with the latest fashion and style, contemporary homewares, textiles and toys.
The spokeswoman for Heatons said:
“We look forward to welcoming 55 new staff and new customers from the North Dublin area to our store, where they can expect more, but pay less, in all departments.
?
Dublin Bay North TDs Sean Kenny (Lab), Terence Flanagan (FG) and Tommy Broughan welcomed the announcement.
“The new jobs are to be welcomed and I hope the new store will attract much footfall from members of the local community,
? said Deputy Kenny.
Deputy Broughan said:
“This will be a welcome boost to employment and the local economy of the Northside which has suffered from sustained job losses in recent years.
?
Northside Shopping Centre is to get a
?¬5 million facelift and Deputy Flanagan believes this investment is clearly working to entice new tenants.
“I am happy that Heatons will be based in the area,
? he said.
Meanwhile, Dublin North TD Alan Farrell (FG) has welcomed the announcement at Stream Global Services.
“This is great news for Swords,
? he said.
“It’s very gratifying to see companies like Stream putting faith in Fingal by investing in its operations there.
