DAVID Cashill is a four-year-old boy who has to face multiple challenges on a daily basis.

The Baldoyle youngster has to be fed though a tube inserted into his stomach (peg fed). He has low muscle tone and is supported by a moulded seat, as he is unable to sit and support himself.

At night he is aided by a machine that keeps his airway open because when he sleeps his airway closes and restricts his breathing. The device is called a Bipap and it ensures that he gets a full night’s sleep.

According to David’s mum, Aideen, there is no diagnosis for her son’s illness and he falls under the umbrella of Global Developmental Delay.

“Despite all of these conditions David has to deal with he is one of the happiest children I have ever come across,

? Aideen told Northside People.

“It’s very rare for him to cry. He cannot speak but he is very good at communicating and is easy to read.

“His favourite person in the whole world is his sister Isobelle; he has the biggest smile once he sees her. Isobelle is nine-years-old and is a wonderful big sister and daughter. My husband Dave and I are very lucky.

Aideen praised St Michael’s House who have been a great help to the family since David turned one. He currently attends the organisation’s school in Baldoyle.

“Dave and I were unsure how to bring David along to the best of his abilities, and St Michael’s House have provided us with these tools and continue to do so on a daily basis,

? she says.

“Without them we would be lost and David loves going into school to his pals, teacher and special needs assistants. They are a fantastic service and it is provided to us at no cost.

On Thursday, November 21 Aideen will hold a charity night in aid of St Michael’s House at Silks Restaurant, Malahide. Tickets for the ladies’ only event –

‘Girls Just Want To Have Fun’ – cost

?¬50 and this will include dinner, a glass of wine and a gift bag for each lady. There will also be spot prizes and a raffle on the night.

“I have held this event in 2010 and 2011 and both nights were a great success raising over

?¬10,000,

? adds Aideen.

“Unfortunately, I was unable to host the event last year as David had an ongoing ear disease and was in and out of hospital.

“He was through the mill and had various investigations and operations but thankfully he is doing fantastic now.
