THE announcement last week that Dell is creating 200 new jobs at Cherrywood on the Southside has been greeted with delight.

Dell Financial Services and Dell Bank International Ireland Ltd will be establishing a new commercial banking wing of their company at the Cherrywood Business Park.

While this will initially bring 200 new jobs to the area, the number is expected to increase to 300 as the business expands.

The Tánaiste, and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Eamon Gilmore, said he was delighted to see Dell investing in his own constituency.

“The decision by Dell to choose Ireland, and Cherrywood in particular, as the location for this endeavour is a vote of confidence in the work that has been done by this Government to rebuild our economy,

? he declared.

“The jobs being created by Dell at Cherrywood are the exact kind of high-quality jobs that this Government is working to create, and the exact kind of jobs that we need to attract more of to Ireland.

“The financial services sector forms a crucial part of the Government’s Action Plan for Jobs, and it is wonderful to see this plan paying dividends.

He added:

“I wish Dell every success in their new venture, and I look forward to seeing more investments of this sort in Dun Laoghaire in the coming months.

The moves means Dell will be providing direct financing to business customers throughout Europe, as well as commercial loans and leases to small, medium and large enterprise customers in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, the Netherlands and Luxembourg.

Dell currently employs over 2,400 people across Ireland in Dublin, Cork and Limerick.

Cllr Cormac Devlin (FF) said the development was a further sign that the Cherrywood Science and Technology Park

“is in a very attractive location with superb infrastructure on its doorstep including the Luas, several bus routes, the M50 and N11

?.

“The Cherrywood Science and Technology Park over the past 12 months has witnessed several sizeable jobs announcements,

? he pointed out.

“And as a councillor for the area, I am particularly pleased that many of these jobs will be geared towards highly skilled graduates and those with the relevant skills and experience who have been searching for a long period for employment.

He added:

“This announcement is also a reminder that Ireland remains an attractive location for inward investment and for existing multi-nationals to expand their footprint in the country.

“It also underlines the need for our corporation tax regime to be protected by the Government, ensuring that Ireland can continue to compete aggressively for new business.

The jobs boost for the Southside came in the same week as Twitter created a further 100 jobs in Dublin by doubling the size of its European headquarters.
