Dublin date for a Galway guy

Ultan Conlon’s album tour runs from on October 4 to November 2.

GALWAY’S Ultan Conlon is bringing his new set of songs to Dublin’s Whelan’s on October 6.

The singer is touring across the country on the back of his second album

‘Songs of Love So Cruel’ that has just been released.

Featuring a range of songs from romantic to traditional rock and roll, country and folk, the album is created as a sit down and listen piece from start to finish.

There are themes on there, stories and anecdotes from the almost 30-year-old’s perspective.

The new single

‘The River Flows & the Woods Creep’, which has been getting some serious airplay since its release, is one of those numbers that stands strong on its own but slots perfectly in with the rest of the album.

He performs the song as a stirring duet with long-time friend and musician Sabrina Dinan and it forms just part of his observations of the rocky road of true love.

“Yeah strangely enough I was single myself when I was writing the album so a lot of the themes and stories on there are based on just observing other people around me and how relationships stand the test of time,

? he explained.

For one so relatively young the songs display a maturity that registers and hits home as authentic.

“I love writing,

? he added.

“It sits well with me and I enjoy it but I’m looking forward to getting back out on the road.

And the road beckons for the singer with gigs lined up all across the country on his nationwide tour including the long awaited Dublin date on Sunday, October 6.

“I’m hoping for a few new faces at the gigs that may have heard some of the songs on the album,

? he added.

“I won’t pretend I’m familiar with the music scene in Dublin these days but it is certainly one of the venues I’ve enjoyed playing in the past.

No stranger to the road or gigging, Ultan has already played at venues across Dublin before and since his debut album ‘Bless Your Heart’ in 2009 that attracted high praise from listeners and reviewers alike.

Fresh from an appearance this year’s Electric Picnic the Galway man is comfortable playing live.

“But you can always learn,

? he reflected.

“You learn from your mistakes and you get better.
